The awesomeness of quotes (1)

I watch a lot of series and movies, and I read a lot of books. Safe to say, I have a lot of quotes that I just really love or that simply stay with me. So I decided to share some of them. Starting with the series that will always be number one in my life: Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Fair warning: In case you haven't seen the episodes yet, there could be SPOILERS.

Season 1

1x01 - Welcome to the Hellmouth

Buffy: "It's my first day! I was afraid that I was gonna be behind in all my classes, that I wouldn't make any friends, that I would have last month's hair. I didn't think there'd be vampires on campus"

1x12 - Prophecy Girl

Buffy: "Giles, care? I'm putting my life on the line, battling the undead. Look, I broke a nail, ok? I'm wearing a press-on. The least you could do is exhibit some casual interest; you can go hmm."
Giles: "Hmm?"

Buffy: "I may be dead, but I'm still pretty. Which is more than I can say for you."

Season 2

2x01 - When she was bad

Principal Snyder: "There are some things I can just smell. It's like a sixth sense."
Giles: "No. Actually that would be one of the five."

Buffy: "So are you gonna kill me, or are we just making small talk?"

2x14- Innocence

Willow: "I knew it! I knew it! Well, not 'knew it' in the sense of having the slightest idea, but I knew there was something I didn't know. You two were fighting way too much, it's not natural."

2x15 - Phases
Willow: "It is nice. He's great. We have a lot of fun. But I want smoochies!"
Buffy: "Have you dropped any hints?"
Willow: "I've dropped anvils."

Giles:"Werewolves! One of the classics! I'm sure my books and I are in for a fascinating afternoon."
Buffy: "He needs to get a pet."

Buffy: "And I'm one of the few."
Willow: "Don't forget, you're supposed to be a meek little girlie-girl like the rest of us."
Buffy: "Spoil my fun."

Giles: "Quite. And it, uh, acts on-on pure instinct. No conscience, uh, uh, predatory and, and aggressive."
Buffy: "In other words, your typical male."
Xander: "On behalf of my gender: Hey!"
Giles: "Yes, let's not jump to any conclusions."
Buffy: "I didn't jump. I took a tiny step, and there conclusions were."
2x16 - Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered
Amy [asking Buffy about Valentine's Day]: "What about you?"
Buffy: "Oh, Valentine's Day is just a cheap gimmick to sell cards and chocolates."
Amy: "Bad break-up, huh?"
Buffy: "Believe me when I say, 'uh-huh'."

Giles: "Might I have a word?"
Buffy: "Have a sentence, even."

Willow: "Oz has his cool hair today.... I think I'm a groupie!"

Xander: "It's time for me to act like a man... and hide!"

Giles: "I cannot believe that you are fool enough to do something like this."
Xander: "Oh, no, I'm twice the fool it takes to do somethin' like this.

Buffy: "I seem to be having a slight case of nudity here."
Oz: "But you're not a rat. So call it an upside."
Buffy: "You think maybe you could get me some clothing?"
Oz: "Yes, I can. Just, uh...don't go anywhere."
Buffy: "Really not an issue."

2x20 - Go Fish
Xander: "I'm undercover."
Buffy: "Not under much."

Season 3

3x01 - Anne

Buffy: "I don't want any trouble. I just want to be alone and quiet in a room with a chair and a fireplace and a tea cozy. I don't even know what a tea cozy is, but I want one."

Buffy: "One day I just looked in the mirror and I thought 'I'm dirty. With all the sex and ... the loud music us kids listen to nowadays... Oh I just suck in undercover. Where's Ken?"

Buffy: "Hey Ken, wanna see my impression of Ghandi?"
(smashes Ken's head in, who's lying on the ground)
Lily: "Ghandi?"
Buffy: "You know, if he was really pissed off."

3x08 - Lovers Walk

Spike: "You're not friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love till it kills you both. You'll fight, and you'll shag, and you'll hate each other until it makes you quiver, but you'll never be friends. Love isn't brains, children, it's blood -- blood screaming inside you to work its will. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it"

Spike:  "Oh, sod the spell. Your friends are at the factory. I'm really glad I came here, you know? I've been all wrongheaded about this - weeping, crawling, blaming everybody else. I want Dru back, I've just got to be the man I was. The man she loved. I'm going to do what I should have done in the first place. I'll find her, wherever she is, tie her up, torture her until she likes me again. Love's a funny thing."

3x09 - The Wish

Willow: "Isn't he gonne go 'poof'?"
Buffy: "hm, I guess these guys don't. Maybe we should bury him or something."
[Buffy, Willow and Xander shrug their shoulders and walk away]

3x11 - Gingerbread

Buffy (in a high-pitched voice): "Did I get it? Did I get it?"

3x16 - Doppelgangland

Buffy:  "Aren't you going to introduce me to your... Holy God, you're Willow"

3x18 - Earshot

Xander: "What am I gonna do? I think about sex all the time! Sex.. Help! Four times five is thirty...five times six is thirty-two... Naked girls. Naked women... Naked Buffy... Oh, stop me!"

Season 4

4x02 -Living Conditions

Buffy (on Kathy): "I knew it! I knew you were one of those demon things!"

4x08 Pangs

Spike: "Bear! You made a bear!"
Buffy: "I didn't mean to."
Spike: "Undo it! Undo it!"

4x11 - Doomed

Giles: "It's the end of the world."
Buffy, Willow and Xander: "Again?!"
Buffy (relating to earthquakes): "I told you. I said 'End of the World,' and you were like 'pooh-pooh, Southern California, pooh-pooh."

Season 5

5x01 - Buffy vs. Dracula

Dracula: "Very impressive hunt. Such power."
Buffy: "That was no hunt. That was just another day on the job. Care to step up for some overtime?"
Dracula: "We're not going to fight."
Buffy: "Do you know what a Slayer is?"
Dracula: "Do you?"
Buffy: "Who are you?"
Dracula: "I apologize. I assumed you knew. I am Dracula."
Buffy: "Get out!"

5x11 - Triangle

Giles: "The resources that the Watcher's Council have at their disposal... I mean, the central library alone is--"
Buffy: "Don't talk about the books again. You get all... And sometimes there's drool."

Willow: "I'm not stealing. I'm just taking things without paying for them. In what twisted dictionary is that stealing?"

5x12 - Checkpoint

Tara: "Wh-what's so bad about them coming here? Aren't they good guys? I mean, Watchers, that's just like other Gileses, right?"
Buffy: "Yeah, they're scary and horrible!"

Glory: "Buffy, if I wanted to fight, you could tell by the being dead already."

Season 6
6x06 - All the Way

Giles: "No. Unless I blocked it from my memory, much as I will Xander's vigorous use of his tongue." (takes off his glasses and cleans them on his shirt)
Buffy: "Is that why you're always cleaning your glasses? So you won't have to see what we're doing?"
Giles: "Tell no one."

6x08 - Tabula Rasa

Giles: "Magic?! Magic's all balderdash and chicanery."

Spike (on Giles): "Oh, listen to Mary Poppins. He's got his crust all stiff and upper with that Nancy-boy accent. You English men are always so... bloody hell! (counting on his fingers) Sodding, blimey, shagging, knickers, bollocks. Oh God... I'm English."

Season 7

7x04 - Help

Dawn: "You know, I'm not the shortes one here. I don't know why I had to be in the kid coffin."

7x06 - Him

Willow: "I have tried every anti-love spell spell I could find."
Anya: "Even if you find the right one, the guy would probably just do an anti-anti-love spell spell.... spell."
Willow: "What?"

Buffy: "Willow, you're a gay woman! And he... isn't."
Willow: "This isn't about his physical presence! It's about his heart."
Anya: "His physical presence has a penis!"

Xander: "Will, honey... R.J.'s a guy."
Willow: "I did notice that, yeah! It's why I'm doing my spell, because, you know, he doesn't have to be!"

Buffy: "You realize that Anya's probably seducing R.J. even as we speak."
Willow: "My God, you think so?"
Buffy: "Well, I wouldn't put it past her. She's recently evil you know."
Willow: Well, so am I. Why should I miss out?"

Feel free to comment on this (or my other) blog and share some of your quotes. They don't have to be from this show, but it could be quotes like 'We're gonna need a bigger boat' or 'Housten, we have a problem'. Can't wait to see if anyone comments! :-)

Note: This page will keep changing, seeing how sometimes Btvsquotes just pop into my head. I will add them to this page. If you can't wait that long, or simply can't get enough there are a lot of websites that focus on just their quotes (or simply rewatch the show).
Here's a couple, enjoy!

Birthdays

A little over a week ago I celebrated my 24th birthday. Now, normally I do not think this is a big deal. People always ask you what you want for your birthday and I come up blanc. Seriously... I don't know. I don't really have any money and a lot of the time I just see things and wish I had them, but when that one moment a year comes I don't know what to say. There is another reason as well. That is that I think people are to materialistic. They always want so much stuff and I can't stand it. Sure, I also wish I had some things. I love reading books and I love watching movies. So if I have the money I would buy it. But it's a whole different thing if you ask other people for it. In a way I think its rude and shallow and basically it makes me uncomfortable and gives me a bad feeling. Like I'm doing something wrong.

But it's not that I'm against presents. I love presents. I just don't really know how to act when I get them. In my previous blog I mentioned that I got a present, or should I say THE PRESENT? It was a Serenity DVD signed by Joss Whedon. I got this present in the train and I gotta tell ya. You wouldn't believe my reaction. I'm pretty sure I turned red and even cried a little. I couldn't stop staring at it and thanking the wonderful man that gave it to me. Because it means so much to me and it sooooo awesome ;-). What I guess matters most to me when I get a present, is that it comes from the heart. Around birthdays it's expected to bring presents. And maybe that's what's wrong with it for me. There's no surprise there. I much rather surprise my Mom or sisters with a present just because I saw it in a store and thought they might like it. The surprised and happy look on their face, that's why I do it. And no, of course it doesn't need to be expensive. Why would anyone even say such a thing? It would only make me uncomfortable, knowing that I'm holding something in my hands that's expensive. And possibly guilty, that someone spend that much money on me. I guess I just don't deal well with it or something.

There are some presents I got that I absolutly LOVE! For instance, in one of my previous blogs I mentioned a trip to a theme park called the EFTELING. This was a birthday present from my sister and her boyfriend for me and mine. It was an awesome day! Yes, I did feel a little bit guilty, because it was expensive. But it was so good and an outing is about the experience instead of something materialistic. I got to spend a day with the people I love in a beautiful place. What's not to love? :-).
Moving on to my actual birthday celebration and the presents. My dear, sweet uncle gave me a book that I have been wanting to read since I started studying Film and Television. It's called Twentieth Century by Albert Robida. Kinda sci-fi about inventions that we would have in the 20th century. So I'm very excited to start reading it. It's the perfect present after waiting such a long time to get my hands on it.
My parents and sister also gave me great presents. A couple of years ago a movie came out with Sarah Michelle Gellar (yes, she plays Buffy) called Veronika Decides to Die. It took forever to come out here. In the meantime I already downloaded it (so sue me, I got impatient!) and bought the book and read it twice. Now I own it on DVD and watched it with my family. I finally got to share it. I really loved the movie the first time I watched it and I love it even more. It's so beautiful and sweet and just ... so GOOD.

There is one more present I like to pay attention to. And that's the book How to Be Death - Yes, my family really thought there might be something going on there, but I don't think of the titles, I just love the work ;-). In October I went to this convention and I got to meet the amazing and wonderful Amber Benson. I know her from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I kept up with what she was doing. She made some great movies, not to mention great books like Death's Daughter. It was supposed the be a series of three books, but at that convention Amber was nice enough to share that there would be two more books. Safe to say that I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. It came out in February I believe, but me not having a job or a paycheck... decided to do the smart thing and spend the money on food and rent. So I was very thrilled to get it for my birthday. I just started reading it and I can't wait for what's coming next!!!!! As an added bonus, I posted my happiness with the book on Twitter and shortly after I got a reply. By none other than Miss Benson herself!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D (I have to stop, but seriously, there are not enough smiley faces). She wished me a happy birthday!!!! How awesom is that for a birthday present, right? A very little thing, but it made me jump up in the air. And that really made my birthday. So honestly people, money isn't everything.

Which leeds me to my other thing. To me the most important thing about birthdays or just any special kind of event is to spend it with the people you love. Birthday in itself, not so special. I don't really like the attention. But on my actual birthday me, my sister and my parents, we played games (cards, boardgames and Yathzee) and it was so much fun. In the weekend - the actual celebration - my uncle, boyfriend other sister and her boyfriend came to visit and we talked and had fun. So my perfect birthday would be spending time with family and friends. Just talking, nothing special. Well, maybe some kind of cake or pie. Because I love me some of those ;-).

I feel like there's a lot more I wanted to say about birthdays and presents, but I seemed to have forgotten most of it. So let me end with this:

- Presents? Sure they are nice, but much better when it's not from a list, but given from the heart.
- Attention? Not so much, though spending time with family and friends is definitely the most important to me.
- Aging? Not really a thing for me. Though I have to a admit, I thought around this time I wanted to have a job and maybe some more stability in my life. So maybe that's why I didn't want a whole big thing.
- Cake/Pie? Yeah baby!!!! One of the best things right?
--> Family and friends are what matters most. Without them, what's life even worth.

All in all I had a wonderful time on my birthday, not to mention the past year. Because I finally graduated. Wootwoot! It was fun and I loved the presents I got, not to mention the company I was in. Now I'm still enjoying the books and dvd :-).

P.s. A while ago Eliza Dushku started her facebook page, which of course I liked (she played Faith in Buffy). I made a comment on here page and she 'liked' it, which also send me through the roof :-P.

Film Festival

Wow, it's been a long while since my last blog. But luckily I have done a lot, so I have a lot to tell ;-). Starting with the volunteering work I did at Imagine: Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival. It's a festival that focuses cult, science fiction, fantasy and horror movies and takes place in the movie theatre Kriterion in Amsterdam. Only a year ago I learned the existence of this festival and this year I was writing for the daily paper. I also got an extra job to handle the twitter report during Masterclasses, a caberet and readings. It was amazing. I got to watch a lot of movies and I met amazing people. That's the beauty of working with so many volunteers! They were so amazing just to hang out with during screenings. An awesome lot. Very helpful and just fun to be around. It truly made it a succes.
It was also very hectic, because articles could come up and I had to finish it that evening. Deadlines you know :P. But it all worked out and I really enjoyed it. One thing I love about these festivals is that you get to see movies that hardly ever come to the movie theatres at all. So you see movies from America, and UK which isn't that new. But also from Japan, Korea, Norway, Indonesia, Spain and ... well you name it. They have amazing movies and it's a shame that not that many people will get to see them. Talking about these movies of course I would like to share some titles with you.

List of a couple of movies I watched and loved:

- Babycall (with the great Noomi Rapace)

- Scabberd Samurai (funny and sweet)

- Corman's World (hilarious!)

- The Raven (who doesn't like Edgar Allen Poe?)

- A Letter to Momo (<3)

- Intruders (with a Dutch 'Hieperdepiep Hoera!' from Carice van Houten)

- Madame X (so funny and amazing, yet has a deeper layer)

As a reporter of course I got to do interviews. With the makers of these amazing movies:
- Harolds Going Stiff - Keith Wright
- Madame X - Amink
- With Great Power: The Stan Lee Movie - Will Hess
All amazing people and I'm very happy I got to meet them, pick their brains and just loved talking to them. They were very nice and happy to be there, which really shows how great they are.

Buffy is everywhere (for me)

Being a Buffygeek, I know a lot about Buffy and it's creators. It also means I notice certain things and relate it to the show. For example, in Corman's World actor Eric Balfour suddenly showed up. He played Jessy in just two episodes, but it was a memerable role. So I loved seeing that. Then there was the 'Night of Terror' in which they showed four horror movies starting from midnight into the wee bit hours of the morning. During this night Joss Whedon's and Drew Goddard movie The Cabin in the Woods was shown. I unfortunatly didn't get to see it (little bit late for me), but I will go see it this weekend hopefully ;-). And to top that all off, my chief editor gave me a thank you present for all the work. And it was nothing less than the DVD Serenity (UK Version 2006) with........... (pause for dramatic effect).....an autograph from JOSS WHEDON!!!!! That's right, I now am the very proud owner of Mr. Genius himself :-D. So it really could not have been a greater experience for me. I say: Let's do that again next year!

The official site of the festival is: www.imaginefilmfestival.nl (you can also visit it in English).
